The two day travel area included most of Kentucky. It included w. Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. This 10 state area included a near majority of the US population and almost all of its industry. Inside this zone it was hard to convince people that the capital was far away, representation was unfair, or that the politicians in Washington, D.C. and New York would not make concessions to the region as whole.
Outside of this zone, it was possible for people to think that colonial conditions still existed. Outside this zone, local currencies, local traditions and local power made a good deal more sense.
