Trying To Locate Ancestors Regiment

Gentle men & ladies, Compliments,

All I can gather from reading is the 28th Tex were a group of cavalry that where forced into a infantry position and werer never happy about it [one small mutiny] fought well near vicksburg, but lightly used. These troops were used correctly elsewhere and mustered out in may/65

Is anyone doing Burlington County, NJ/ Marburg, Hesse/Schweinfurt Bavaria research for their Civil War ancestor? I've just written NJ for my ancestor's death certificate and i have his military service record. Any tips would be appreciated. i have the date and place of birth and from a photo of his gravestone on Findagrave.com. He was a Private in the 4th NJ courtesy of Soldiers and Sailors/ Military service record.
Respectfully,
Matt

I found a web site on which one can search for CW soldiers and sailors by name or by regiment, plus some other info like Battle Summaries by state.

Not that it provides much info. I seached for Ulysses Grant from Illinois an found him, but there was no more info about him by that search, than there was for the random private from Ohio. They do give a Micro-film reference # for National Archives records. But it is free.

Check it out at:

There is another site that offers (for a fee) to find your soldier and his service record:

Thanks Sam, I utilized the CWSS to get the service records that I have now. Has anyone dealt with the NJ Dept of Health and Agriculture for Genealogical reasons? how detailed is their info, re: death Certificates circa 1900?
Matt
