Is there any resource out there for a troop movement map? I don't mean a battle map like Gettysburg, but maps that show there different companies moved over the course of the war. Thanks
I would think that only a regimental history would show anything like company movements, but it is more likely they would battalion movements. It is something you would have to find in the written sources themselves.
Then, no, company movements on maps would rarely be shown. The main reason being that basic maneuvers during the ACW were at the the brigade or regiment level.
Bradley Gottfried has written several map books for different Eastern Theatre battles. These books include all the brigade information as well as descriptions of the battles and troop movements. His books are all excellent. David.
