Game #50 - Week 5

Happy Birthday to Hoosier, our favorite Groundhog, on his 117th birthday! Hang in there Hoosier.

I don’t think my questions are getting any easier. I do think you all are getting better at finding the answers. I guess that would suggest I make the questions more difficult, fewer clues, etc. What do you think?

Here are the questions for Week 6:

1. In the summer of 1863, Union forces who needed to cross a bridge to meet Confederate forces were charged a toll in order to cross that bridge. Give the name of the bridge at that time, and the amount the Union forces were charged to cross the bridge.

2. This close relative of a co-conspirator in Lincoln’s assassination not only willingly aided in the apprehension of said co-conspirator, but also hired legal counsel for the defense of that same co-conspirator. Name the person (the relative, not the co-conspirator).
(Suggested by sockknitter)

3. What Civil War Major General’s legacy is most closely connected with Betty Crocker, a Green Giant, a Doughboy, and a Silly Rabbit?

4. This Pennsylvania native, a Captain in a cavalry regiment, was the only person of his profession to win the Congressional Medal of Honor (for an action in Virginia in 1864). Name him.
(Clue: The American College Dictionary defines the term occupation as one’s business or trade and notes that the term profession implies an occupation requiring special knowledge and training.)

5. A close associate of William Quantrill and a Colonel of a Missouri Cavalry regiment, he was killed in a September, 1862 battle. Name his famous great-grandfather.

Answers are due by 6pm (eastern) on Saturday, February 9.

Good Luck!

Sam:

Looks to me like the questions are about right. It is better asked of the actual participants, but I'm figuring you've reached a good level of difficulty without being ridiculous.

ole

Sam, thank you for your birthday greetings, though I'm not sure how you figure it was my 117th. I had a nice day.

Checking my scores from the current game and the two preceding games, I find that my scores after five weeks have been as follows:
Game 48: 17 points
Game 49: 15 points
Game 50: 13 points

Seems to me that you're already making the questions more difficult. Personally, I'd rather not see you accelerate the process.

Didn't mean to make this week's questions more difficult than usual. Looking back at the questions, I can see that it may be a challenging week.

-

Then again, maybe not!

-

I don't think I would be a regular player but I happened to know 3 of the questions and was pretty sure about the other 2 and got the answers. How/where do I send my answers....just for the heckofit.

Just post a reply. Put all 5 answers in the one reply. You won't see your answers after you post it. You will on Saturday when the game ends. Manny players do play "just for the heckofit".

Welcome to the game.
