πŸŽ‰ TOP TEN FORREST FORUM πŸŽ‡ THREADS OF 2019 🐎

I was always jealous of David Letterman. :D

Here are the threads with the most activity (replies and discussion) in 2019. Thankfully, most weren't too contentious, and I thank all of you who contributed thoughtful conversation and research! And thank all of you who started threads--just when we think everything has been cussed and discussed...here comes something new!

10. General Nathan Bedford Forrest LOL...everybody's favorite "gambler" story, right? Started by Lazy Bayou in August, 2011, proving there is nothing like a great story!
9. General Nathan Bedford Forrest by OleRed76, July 2019
8. "Brice's Crossroads serves as Forrest's masterpiece" by CSA Today, June 2014
7. Forrest's Cavalry Corps 1864 - Organization & Equipment by Big Sarge, April 2019 (This looks like a future pick for Brass Napoleon; I can't think of a
more needed topic.)
6. Forrest's Sword by Bob Owen, April 2013
5. Forrest statue in Memphis handed over to SCV. by Desert Kid, December 2019...THIS was the one I was waiting for!!!! Great to finally get to meet a Forrest Forum regular on our trip through Mississippi!
4. Shelby Foote on Forrest by our own 7th Mississippi Infantry, November 2017
3. The Forrest Myth by kepi, May 2015
2. Should Nathan Bedford Forrest be considered "a great general and an honorable man"? by contested ground, November 2018
1. Who would play Forrest in a movie? by 12th Missouri Yankee, November 2014

Totaled, these ten threads have had 73,984 views over their lifetime. Not bad, Forresters! Special salute to @diane, @7th Mississippi Infantry and @DixieRifles for your work over the years since we started the forum. We're looking ahead to lots more--and keep those ideas coming, folks! No question or piece of history is too insignificant for us to learn about!

It's like the countdown to NYE ... :bounce:

And that's a lot of views, too!

It always amazes me what might seem insignificant to one person is what someone else once described as another person's 'crack cocaine' It's so true!

When I moved to the Mempfis area back in the Fall of 1990, I was not that impressed with the stories of General Forrest and all his cavalry exploits. I was more interested in foot soldiers and artillery men. But as I read more and more about him, I guess I have become a "Forrester" of sorts----meaning I don't worship him but I highly regard his leadership and fighting capabilities. These forums have helped me learn more about him and his Mounted Infantry.

Yeah, I think those of us who study him (and his troops) are just interested in how his mind worked and maybe even what he could have become in a different time and place. Talk about a mass of contradictions!

What a great list that is, Nate! You guys have been fantastic hosts, too. I've been surprised by the number of people who have actually changed their minds regarding Forrest after looking through these wonderful threads, and I do think it's because we don't worship him. He's somebody who never stops being interesting as well. Every time you think you've heard it all...there's something new!
