I thought this was a different type tomato soup to make and try. It was recipe in "Old Time Recipes To Enjoy", "The Kentucky Explorer Magazine", April, 2016.

This section of the magazine has recipes from subscribers dating back a hundred years or so.

Tomato Soup

In a saucepan, cook one medium onion, chopped, and two or three potatoes, cubed, until tender. Add one and one half cups of cooked tomatoes. Heat one cup of milk. Add one fourth teaspoon of baking soda just before the hot milk is slowly added (leave small amount of liquid used to cook potatoes and onion in the soup for extra flavor and liquid). Serve in bowls with pickles, celery and crackers.
