This battle made Pope famous, but Second Bull Run made him infamous. How do you depict him in your novel?
Not yet famous, but not yet infamous in my book.

Pope makes a few appearances in the novel. I have a scene of with him and Gordon Granger reviewing troops at the Benton Barracks. Later I have him discussing the assault on New Madrid with his generals.

There are a few other historical people in the book, but it mostly revolves around my fictional characters. I tried to treat the historical people as accurately as possible, even using attributed quotes from them in their dialog.

Wow! I wonder if that fallen tree was from the tornado. If so, your great grandfather may be indirectly part of the book. There was a tornado that blew a tree down on a tent killing some and wounding others. It's in my book. Your great grandfather may have been in that tent. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing and thanks for picking up my book. I hope you like it!

These are the types of events that make history come alive for me. Thanks,

Wish I'd had someone there- it's nearly as good reading about other people's ancestors. @eboulais , your ancestor had a crazy story, poor guy. Boy is there an indestructible gene in your family- everyone must live to be 106! Thanks for sharing.
