1865 John Macadam died. The Macadamia Nut named for him.

1929 Unilever was formed. Merger of Lever Brothers with Unie, producer of margarine.

1964 Pepsi acquired Mountain Dew.

1985 Wreck of "Titanic" was discovered. It inspired great interest in menus from the Titanic.

1783 Fedius Tudor born. Know as the "Ice King", as first to transport ice.

1866 Alfred Cralle born. He invented the ice cream scoop.

1962 Haagen Dazs trademark registered.

1850 Jasper Jack Daniel was born. Founder of Jack Daniel whiskey.

1882 1st Labor Day holiday celebrated in NYC. There was parade and massive picnic at Elm Park.

1932 Cutty Shark trademark registered.

1938 First patent on modern espresso machine.

2001 Justin Wilson dies. Famous cook. Wrote 5 cookbooks and had several TV shows on cooking.

1800 Catherine Beecher born. Author of "Miss Beecher's Domestic Receipt Book".

1899 Carnation began processing evaporated milk.

1916 Clarence Saunders founded Piggly Wiggly grocery chain.

National Date Nut Bread Day

St. Adrian Day, patron of butchers.

1621 Prince Louis II de Conde was born. He had a great passion for rice. Several dishes are named for him, Conomme Conde and Crème Conde.

1795 The Hasty Pudding Club at Harvard was established. It was club to cultivate friendship and patriotism. The members took turns providing a pot of Hasty Pudding for each meeting.

1959 Charles Trotter was born. He was famous chef and also know for his restaurant in Chicago. He wrote 14 cookbooks.

1979 Percy Le Baron Spencer died. He developed the microwave in1945.

National Steak au Poivre Day

1843 Nancy Johnson received patent for hand cranked ice cream freezer.

1890 Harland Sanders was born. He was founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

1932 First issue of "Family Circle" published. Sold in grocery stores. Always know for their recipes.

1899 Charles A. Pillsbury died. He was the flour magnate.

1900 John Marriott was born. Started Hot Shoppe Restaurants, did airline catering and then his motels.

2002 Elizabeth Coblentz died. She was "The Amish Cook". Her cook columns were in many papers. Also wrote several cook books.
