150 yrs. ago today, September 7, 1868: In Milledgeville, GA, this week’s “Southern Recorder” has this anecdote about Confederate General Lee: “The General was riding on his old gray horse which you have all seen so often, when he was met upon the road by a solitary man. This man took off his hat, as everybody else does who meets the General, and said: ‘I am one of your old soldiers, I never asked a favor, but I want to ask you one now.’ The General replied: ‘If I can, I w...ill grant it with pleasure.’…’Well’, said this old rebel, ‘I want you to get down off that horse and let me give you three cheers.’ The General did so, and the cheers were given with a hearty good will, as I now propose that you give three more for General Robert E. Lee.”………
