Thoughts on this shell?

Hello Folks -

First time posting! I collected CW items back in the '60s, but then got carried away with the Great War.
probably because the CW collectibles were getting awfully expensive and W1 items were very cheap and you could uncover some great finds.

Well, regardless, you know how hard it is to change completely. :hungry:

Was pawing through some boxes and came across this shell. It looks of the period, but I've never been able to ID it. Would anyone have any ideas? Can't recall exactly when and where I got it.

Size is ~2-1/4" diameter, length 8"s and weighs in at ~5 pounds. Then again maybe it isn't a projectile!

Thanks for looking and best regards!
- Mike

Great find! If it is a projectile, it looks to be a bolt, not a shell. To my untrained eye, it doesn't seem to be ACW but I could be wrong. Other folks smarter than I will be along shortly to give you a correct identification. Again, great addition to your collection! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. The artillery bolt is post war but still a neat piece.

I've not seen any like that in my references so I'm going to guess it's not CW era. Nice specimen, though.

And welcome from Southern Oregon (northern Jefferson).
