Recent Civil War Talk Radio interview with H. W. Brands about his latest book.
Brands explains the reason for his dual biography is Lincoln and Brown were both anti-slavery, but they disagreed with the methods of dealing with it. It's intended to shows contrasting historical viewpoints without trying to argue which side was "right." Probably the best reason I've ever heard for a dual biography.
There's some interesting comments about writing about the Civil War in general.
