Should I continue to upload photos from the album?I was hoping someone knew more- hadn't come across this one although it's crazy seeing Hayes in there. Who is the boy, does anyone know?
" With the graceful regards of The Ladies Aid Society of Weldon...", so they presented him with the leather album to put his images in or made a gift of photos of people he served with/knew? Montgomery County was amazingly active with relief work- haven't heard much on Weldon specifically but now am fascinated!
@Long Andy , have you tried the historical society or museum in Harrisburg? Both the Civil War museum and state museum have incredible staff. They may know more?
Should I continue to upload photos from the album?
Who can be identified in these photos? If you'd like? What size are they? If they scanned at a huge size, maybe resize to something smaller? I know our scanner insists on spitting out massive jpg's no matter how often we explain to it that isn't what we want. When posting here, I always either downsize or use the computer's snipping tool to create a small jpg.
Do you have more questions on ID's? If so you can't find better feedback than on here.
Find A Grave probably has the stone you're looking for. I find it a little tough to navigate but worth it.
Yes!Should I continue to upload photos from the album?
Already uploaded, see above, but so far no one has expressed his opinion.Yes!
I am searching, but nothing so far.Already uploaded, see above, but so far no one has expressed his opinion.
The photo is glued and does not move, the reverse side is not visible for the same reason. Can you very gently move the photo of the man with the beard and the writing at the bottom to see if the rest of his surname is legible?
Have you checked the back of the CDV's for names?
Rats!!!!The photo is glued and does not move, the reverse side is not visible for the same reason.
Who?!Rats!!!!
Darn it?Who?!
He might be British statesman John Bright?View attachment 297353
Note that this is NOT a photograph, strictly speaking - it is a photographic copy of a period engraving. This was done for two reasons, and NOT on family portraits: Although I don't recognize him (and I'm pretty good at spotting period "celebrities"), he's famous enough to have had an engraving made from his portrait, so he falls into the category along with Grant, Meade, etc., etc.; and that was the ONLY way to have "photos" of long-dead personalities such as those of Napoleon and Lafayette I have in my collection.
In this case, the following photos will be absolutely not interesting, as there are purely "family" pictures.View attachment 297353

I think you have him!
