Ken Baumann is giving a presentation at the Ann Arbor CWRT "The Parrott "System" on 14 January. Should I go? What is the value of learning about the Parrott System? I always wonder if I should read up on the subject of CWRT presentations prior to going. If I read up on the subject I will understand the subject better. If I do not read up on the CWRT presentation subject then I learn more.

Good enough, fast enough. Parrot's method of spinning the barrel while shrinking on the reinforcing band was novel enough to earn him a patent. While accurate, they could be dangerous to their crews. Swamp Angel on Morris Island comes to mind.

It should be a great discussion especially if Ken gets into any of the prior CW history of Capt. Parrott's early days of failures before the system was final fielded. The Parrotts did have some issues when they got overheated and the barrels would crack.

Vast majority of the burst barrels were 100 pounders I think.. Don't know of a 10 pounder or 20 pounder that burst and I don't think a 30 pounder did either..
Great spot to visit if you ever get to Cold Spring NY.. Just up the road from Bannermans Island and up the river from West Point.. Very historic area.

BTW.. Ken Baumann is one of the most knowledgeable guys you will ever find on the Parrott System. He has pulled the lanyard on a lot of artillery and knows em good!!
