It remains unclear how Charles got outside his prison camp. What is clear though is that the guards noticed he wasn’t there. Some distance away Charles snuck quietly through the wilderness, but he stopped right in his tracks when he heard the barks of bloodhounds, he went into a flight or fight sense and he started to bolt into the unknown hoping to outrun the bloodhounds. He was scratched and exhausted and starving, but no matter how fast he ran the barking got louder and louder. Before long he came across a river or creek, he stared at it and in his mind he conducted an idea, jump into the waters to remove his scent from the air and escape the bloodhounds. Charles didn’t have much of a choice, the barking was getting louder and had no where else to run. He jumped into the water fully submerging himself, his clothes felt light and the current rubbed against him, the barking was getting loud to the point he can hear them from underwater, so he started swimming as fast as he could to the other side. When he emerged to the other side he was on an adrenaline rush, he was gasping for air, his clothes were heavy from the water and slowed his movements. He continued on step by step away from the water, the barking began to get louder and louder. But then they went quiet. terror filled Charles, the dogs would bite him to his bone, he could be killed for this attempted escape. Charles soon realized his quick thinking had saved him from capture. He had successfully escaped prison and was a free man once more.
