This is a photo of the Great Camp at the 50th reunion of the Battle of Gettysburg.
It was taken from the Ziegler's Grove tower which was dismantled in 1961? and replaced by an observation deck on the Cyclorama building in 1962. Notice the trolley along the Emmitsburg Rd. At one time trolley's would take tourist from town out to LRT and back.

I am curious about the train tracks alongside the telegraph poles, all of which have long disappeared. Did the tracks go to Westminster or Emmitsburg?

Great picture , by the way.

prroh, those poles are for the electric trolley. What your seeing next to Hancock Ave. are the outbound tracks. Below I'll post a map of the old trolley Route and try to explain it the best I can. The red is the trolley line. The green is the old Gettysburg&Harrisburg RR tracks. The blue is where there was double tracks for the trolleys to pass. The trolley's departed from the power house in town and then out the baltimore pike then SW where it connected to the Emmitsburg Rd. From Emmitsburg Rd. out to LRT the tracks were used for both outbound and inbound trolley's with a few location for them to pass. Now the greenline is the old Gettysburg&Harrisburg line that went out to Roundtop Park. At one time the Gettysburg Electric trolley had an agreement with the railway to use their tracks to make a loop where they would join back up at the emmitsburg Rd. The tracks joined on the SW side of LRT. Inbound only tracks are where they meet at the Emmitsburg Rd. down to Washington St. back to the power house.

Great map, Mosin, thanks. I saved it to my pictures so I could zoom in on certain areas. Very detailed map, good job.

It's one of my favorites. Although I say that about any Gettysburg map. If you start getting into it you will notice at the time it was made some of the avenues are not made yet. Wright and Warren by the roundtops and Birney Ave. around the Peach Orchard just to name a few. You will also notice a few avenues no longer existing like Meade, Harrow and Webb that where all near The Angle.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the Gettysburg Electric Trolley just say the word and I will post the links to the Series.

I would love to hear about the electric trolley that would be cooler to go on then a bus now a days.

Well heck! hlightcap has done all the hard work for me. On his post, part1 through 9 is the series on the electric trolley brought to us courtesy of LBG Rich Kohr. Since hlightcap has provided the links for the trolley series already I'll post the series on the Gettysburg&Harrisburg Railroad by LBG Don Walters to go along with this.

Great picture!

The folks here continue to come up with great info.

Don't get me wrong. I like to learn about the Battle of Gettysburg but I actually get into the history of the battlefield itself more than anything. So much has gone on over the years, things come and go, trolleys, trains, avenues, monuments, reunions, parks. It's all just so interesting.
