The Fort Macon State Park is a state park in Carteret County, North Carolina. This structure is located on Bogue Banks near Atlantic Beach. Fort Macon State Park opened in 1936 and it is the second most visited state park in North Carolina. Fort Macon was built as part of the Third System of United States fortifications and it was preceded by Fort Hampton of the Second System. My wife and I just finished with our tour of Fort Macon. We both gave this park 4 1/2 cannon balls out of 5 cannon balls.
