Here's a Tall Big Dog Story about a true dog-hero, Sailor's his name. A multi-talented canine, indeed. It seems he must even have dictated his biography to the writer of this April 30, 1864 story, because it's hard to see how anyone else could have known it. But, we can rest assured it's entirely true, because the Portland, Maine Daily Eastern Argus, would never print anything that wasn't!

What a great story! You had me at ' little boy crying '.

You know, it's so silly to worry about a dog who must have gone the way of all old dogs 150 years ago. Still, always read these wincing a little waiting for the dog to get killed in a battle. Nice to get to the end of this one and not witness a dog death bed.

What a great story, I’m surprised that it took the family so long to realise that poor sailor had his ears tied down. I wish it were a true story but it doesn’t really matter, I think it was the moral of the story which was probably important at the time.
