The divided and messy family of Thomas Jefferson in the Civil War

When you think of divided families and the war the family of Thomas Jefferson is of the more messy candidates.

Thomas Wayles Jefferson the grandson of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson served throughout the war and attained the rank of Colonel in the 8th Wisconsin Infantry and was wounded in Vicksburg. After the war he became a wealthy cotton broker in Memphis.

Thomas Jefferson Randolph the grandson of Thomas Jefferson and Martha Wayles Jefferson was a Colonel in the Confederate Army and served in the legislature of Virginia though didn't do much in the way of battlefield service. He publicly denied the family linage of Thomas Wayles Jefferson above.

George W Randolph the grandson of Thomas Jefferson and Martha Wayles Jefferson became the second CSA Secretary of War and appeared on its currency in 1863.
