How about someone who's 56?

One his contemporaries albeit an Englishman. Charles Dickens age 38 in 1850 and Dickens 3 years before his death at the age of 55 in 1867, he died aged only 58 in 1870. A rapid ageing process in this case.

I think the stress of war also aged General Lee. He had to be concerned about the welfare of his family and all the men under his command. I believe he was a very caring person. This type of stress would age anyone.

To me he is always a very distinguished looking man. In his early days he was handsome.

And we must not forget that he had to cope with the death of his beloved daughter Anne Carter Lee in 1862. Although he had seen the death of so many good soldiers, the death of a child is something no parent should have to endure.
