Died October 8 1862, Perryville KY
Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1853, Seminole war, recruitment duty, instructor at West Point, coastal survey duty, service in Kansas-Missouri border conflict.
War Service May 1861 Capt. in 5th US Artillery, chief of artillery in 2nd Divn/Army of the Ohio, Shiloh, advance on Corinth, Richmond KY, September 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded 33rd Bde/10th Divn/I corps at Perryville (k).

I was just reading a bit on him and learned that while at West Point, he got in a fistfight with none other that Philip Sheridan, resulting in Sheridan's graduation from West Point being postponed by one year.

Also Kenneth Noe's "Perryville: This Grand Havoc of Battle" has an interesting line in it. When Terrill's mom learned he was staying in the Union army while his brother joined the Confederacy, she apparently helped arrange for him to be transferred out west to avoid the possibility of the brothers fighting or killing the other

That's one reason he ended up at Perryville (where Sheridan was too, coincidentally), where he was mortally wounded.
