I am trying to understand the terms used for Civil War era boot. Here are drawings of Napoleonic War boots. This image shows the souvarow style boot. what makes it a souvarow style boot?
Pointed-toed, calf-high boot named for Russian Field Marshal Aleander Suvorov (1729-1800).
Favored as winter wear by Napoleonic Grenadiers, among others; also popular as a riding boot. Similar to the Hessian boot, but without the tassel or trim. Except for the pointed toe, I don't really know what differentiated it from a Wellington.
Thank you. I did not have Souvarow boots in my data base of Civil War items. I did have definitions for; artillery boots, Wellington boots, half boots, Blucher boots, bootee, cavalry boots, Conestoga boots, Jefferson boots, long boots, Napoleon boots, stoveipe boots, and top boots
