The 17th Alabama was heavily engaged at Shiloh. While doing some research on the 17th I came across these reference to the unit capturing 2 union flags and sending them to Montgomery. I have been looking high and low to see what flags they were and hopefully to see where they are today. Surely between all of us we can find out what happen to these flags. I would assume that they were returned back in the flag returning era. I'll save the story of the 17th's Sharpshooting Preacher for another thread.

I'm no Shiloh expert, but going a map of the first day of the battle it looks like the 17th Ala. would have come into contact with the 9th Ill. and 3rd IA. early on, and Nelson's troops later.

Perhaps they make good candidates?

Here is the OR report that was referred to above but it doesn't say what units they were engaging or the flags.
