Suffolk teen makes historic discovery about African American who fought in Civil War

A 13-year-old girl who made a historic discovery about an African American man serving in the Civil War is calling for his name to be added to a war memorial.
Carlie Prudhomme, of Middle Island, says she found out that the man was Albert Freeman and that he was born in Middle Island.

We'll done! The news article at the link includes an additional link to the student's slide presentation about the soldier, Albert J. Freeman. It's an excellent view of one soldier's life before the war and the role of African American soldiers. I hope this student will continue to study history in college.
