Hello everyone, I was wondering how historically accurate I it to wear a state cockaide on a kepi or forge cap. I currently have one on my officers kepi and my Virginia cavalry officers slouch hat . And is there any proof of soldiers doing this ? Thanks

I assume you are referring to this? ---
Cockade def: a rosette or knot of ribbons worn in a hat as a badge of office or party.

I've never seen anything like one. They had been worn under the old tricorne hats and some modern caps under an insignia. I would like to hear more.

I've never seen one in one of the few photos of Confederates in the field, prisoners, or casualties so I'd say no or very rare, not to say never. I'm a minimalist in my Confederate impressions as far as any adornments go. I've seen a few in studio photos.

Probably only appropriate during the first few month of the war. Most likely a farewell gift from a loved one.
