Some Pictures From the Wilderness Where Immigrants Fought and Died

Okay, Pat. I've got the possible explanation now, and I'll tell you and everyone else that the thought of wounded boys watching the fire advance on their location and waiting for it to consume them is just horrific to me. I'm sure it's horrific to all of those who weren't so slow on the uptake as I was. Dang! That's awful!

I can’t imagine facing a more impossible, terrifying and hopeless situation. I have to skip past any detailed descriptions of the fighting and fire on Saunders Field. One of my ancestors from the 146th NY survived the Battle of the Wilderness, but was later caught at Weldon Railroad in Aug 1864 and died in Salisbury Prison in Jan 1865. Also from the 146th NY, My gggrandfather was wounded and survived the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5. However, he was captured and died at Andersonville in Sep 1864. To think what they witnessed.
