I was recently flipping through Brig. Gen. Alfred J. Vaughan's Personal Record of the Thirteenth Regiment, Tennessee Infantry on Archive.org and in the appendix he records a few of his most memorable experiences from the war. Thought it was worth posting here.

Note that he was living in northern Mississippi (Marshall County) at the outset of the war as a planter when he recruited a company for service, named the Dixie Rifles. The state of Mississippi was, however, unable to arm them so Vaughan led them to Moscow, Tennessee where they were organized as Company E of the 13th Tennessee Infantry. In late 1861 Vaughan was promoted to colonel and took command of the regiment. He would later rise to brigade command in '62 and would lead a brigade in Cheatham's Tennessee Division until he was severely wounded during the Atlanta Campaign.
