Skirmishes or Skirmishing

1) In the Civil War from A to Z: A limited combat involving troops other than those of the main body, i.e. the troops assigned to protect the head and flanks of the army in motion.

2) N-SSA style events, where teams of men shoot at breakable targets for speed, accuracy and score with original and authentic reproduction firearms. Known as Skirmishing.

3) Many web sites hold "Skirmishes" or small group meetings at various places around the country. The Military History Online web site holds a few of these each year at Gettysburg, and other battlefields. Larger gatherings are called "Musters".
