This is the "Colonel Shelley" that S. D. Lee will ask if his men (the 30th Alabama) can re-take the Railroad Redoubt at Vicksburg. This after Shelley has just witnessed an entire squad of his men get killed in the attempt. Sadly, Colonel Shelley will answer, "no. " It is at that time that the Texans asked for the honor of retaking the Redoubt.
