Company C, "The Davis Rifles," was enlisted by Capt John McMillan in Macon County, Georgia to serve for three years or the war. The company received marching orders on June 15, 1861 and left Marshallville, Macon County on June 18, 1861. The company was mustered into service as the 12th Georgia Regiment at the Capitol Square in Richmond on June 26, 1861. Capt. McMillan was killed at McDowell, Virginia on May 8, 1862.
