I know this is off topic. Its a revolutionary war cap. I need help i am to the step sewing the band and cap. I'm am stumped by which way it goes. Right sides together? wrong with right or what........im frustrated the picture seems to show th e fold on the underside of the cap or is it me seeing it wrong. It seriously cannot be that hard! I need your ladies help here! I am stopping all everything for the night and starting fresh in the am and hoping someone here can guide me before I go crazy!

It sounds like you sew just one edge of the band to the cap, right side to right side, with a running stitch directly through both, sewing from the wrong side. Then you bring the other edge of the band around (with its seam allowance already ironed down) and lay it on the right side of the cap (step 4) so it looks just like it will when it's finished. You sew that seam from the right side. If I'm understanding it correctly, it's the same way one would put a cuff or collar on a man's shirt.

Better instructions (I hope):

Step 1: A casing in the bottom of the cap that goes against the neck
Step 2: Gathering stitches to the cap that attaches to the forehead (set piece aside)

Step 3: If ruffle is in pieces, seam them together
Step 4: Do a hem on one side of ruffle, gathering stitches on the other

Step 5: Sandwich the ruffle between 2 band pieces and stitch up the side, down the long side catching the raw edge of ruffle, down the final side. Clip corners and turn band pieces to right side out. (similar to what you would do for a skirt waistband.)

Step 6: Determine Center of band and cap. Pin the gathered section of cap to strait raw edge of lining band. Sew.

Step 7: Fold edge of "seen" band under and stitch over the cap gathered section to enclose raw edges

Step 8: Thread cord into the casing you made in step 1. Try on the cap and adjust.
Step 9: While the cap is on in step 8, measure and place the ribbon ties.

On a side tip here... when sewing on the ribbon ties, make sure you use LARGE stitches that can be easily removed. Ribbon is notorious for not being dye fast.... so you want to be able to remove them before washing.
