Nearly everyone on this forum knows who Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was. The college professor turned war hero became governor of the great state of Maine after the war. At the time, the governor was up for election every year! Chamberlain won four terms as governor, but his reelection in 1868 was his most massive victory.
