I vaguely remember this. There are other stories like it. Unfortunately, until someone can show me empirical scientific evidence ghosts exist, I will remain a doubter. That said, Gettysburg is replete with ghost stories, but for as many times as I have visited, I have never experienced anything remotely ghost like.

I guess you just have to look or go at the right time to see the ghost. I have personal experience before I've seen stuff I couldn't explain before. It's hard to tell people what you saw, something "Paranormal". Without the evidence to back it up etc. That's why they make these shows etc. There are a lot of skeptics out there, that also ghost hunt but to debunk it etc. That's what TAPS does why they started their show. That's why I liked their group the best.

Guess it's one of those rather iffy catagory in an iffy field, as to what constitutes the "scariest"

Generally the Lemp mansion is mentioned as most haunted in the state, and often on most haunted lists for the whole country

Don't misunderstand, I like a good ghost story as much as anyone. I believe most folks who say they have seen something extraordinary have in fact witnessed some kind of phenomenon. Still, until there is empirical scientific evidence, I will remain a ghost skeptic. It would seem to me with all the technology we have today, that there would be some reliable scientific evidence, but like bigfoot, it continues to prove elusive. As a point of interest, we have our own Ghost story here in Middle Tennessee. Lt. Col. Julius Peter Garesche served as General Rosecrans Chief of Staff and was beheaded by a cannon ball while riding his horse during the Battle of Stones River. It is said his beheaded ghost can be seen riding the Stones River Battlefield at night or so some claim.

Outstanding! I too lived for this show in the late 90s-early oughts. It is pretty overwrought looking back at it, but enjoyable all the same. Made them seem like mini-horror stories. Fox Family did a lot of great programming during that period - watched a lot of that with my wife. There was one similar show where they had whole families spending the night in reportedly haunted places all over the US and Europe.

Weird serendipity, I was just thinking of that very Missouri episode not three days ago.

I remember the Chillingham Castle one and that castle seemed darn creepy to me!

Okay, what about Polk’s ghost? He got beheaded by a cannon ball too. I’ve never heard that he haunts anywhere.

And thank you @JD Mayo

That episode was spooky to my wife and I back when it aired as well. I recall it well, one of the best episodes that series ever aired.

But that is true - I'm unfamiliar with any Bishop Polk hauntings either. If any Georgians out there are familiar with any stories, please post. The story of his death is bizarre and fanciful enough - but I'm unaware of any good stories related to him after his death. The actual stories I am aware of - what the college is doing to liquidate his memory - is strange enough.

They do serve excellent food, even if not there for the eternal spirits.
