Is that a white flag on his bayonet? Another great one.
What a good image. A two band musket? It seems the bayonet is low.
That is just the ramrod and the muzzle end of the barrel
What some of you are seeing as a "bayonet" is actually the ramrod in its channel in the stock; the "white flag" is the nosecap of either a M.1842 or M.1816/22 conversion smoothbore musket and not a Springfield or Enfield rifle, which don't have nosecaps. (John is of course correct.)
