I was trying to look for the cartridges they used in the 1841 Mississippi rifle before they adopted the conical ball, and I could only find this. The link doesn't even take me to the right Pinterest picture. Were these cartridges like regular smoothbore musket cartridges, or did they have a patched round ball in them?
This video by Britishmuzzleloaders shows that cartridges with patched round ball existed (but not even he can find much info on it) for the Baker rifle, and using unpatched paper cartridges in a rifle wasn't a whole lot more accurate than the same cartridge being fired out of a smoothbore. Another thread on this site says they used a powder flask, and separate patch and ball. What am I missing here?
