This favoite mount of Gen. George Armstrong Custer was shot out from under him on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Roanoke recovered and survived the War.

Kinda makes you wonder about the resiliency and mortality of the horses. Stories abound about the horses shot out from under this or that general. Many survived their wounds and served on. Sherman went through a number, 'tho not as many as Forrest. I suppose a horse can absorb a .58 chunk of lead better than a man.
