I'm in high school and we have to do a research paper and I decided to do it on the Civil War because I find the subject interesting. The question I'm trying to answer is: did R E Lee think that the war would last a while or end quickly. I found out that answer, but I want to find out others reactions to the length of war, but can only get one sentence here and there. If any one can refer me to a website or book I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

First, set aside a long evening to probe posts back to their beginning. You will find a wealth of information about virtually everything.

Did Bobby Lee thing the war would be over quickly? Virtually everybody did, but the question remains: did Lee?

First, the war was on for nearly a year before he became the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia. I suspect he held no such vain hope. He was a practical man and had seen the determination of the north at first hand. Others were still running in circles declaring that we should crush them quickly. And there's the southern boast that one southerner could whip 10 yanks. You're in high school, you've seen that sort of confidence up close.

Read the posts. Check the links. Take as much time as your paper allows. Start now. You have quite a few hours in front of you.

You've picked a subject rich in rewards. Go for it, dude!
