According to one account: “Red Eye,” the magnificent bay thoroughbred of General Garnett, valued at $1400, was the
second highest priced horse in Longstreet’s Corps; the horse was killed along with its rider in the charge at Gettysburg.
I might add - I haven't read the thread through, though, and this may have been mentioned - that canister did a great deal of damage to Red Eye. A huge chunk was blown out of his neck and side. If it did that to the horse, then we might surmise why Richard Garnett was never found.
