Recovering the memories of Jewish Civil War soldiers by our own Pat Young

What is your source for this information? I know many Jews with "profession" names like Schneider, Miller, Fishman, Becker, etc.

today: they were simple not allowed to have these professions,
there were a lot marriages since then,
a lot of name changes during the imigration process,
people can change their religionat will (e.g. Liza Minelli)

e.g. my name is definitly Polish but I'm not Polish

other examples
Marechal MacMahon (French chiefcommander WWI)
von Baudissin: German General (actually a hacked up French name)
de Angelis: Austrian / German General
Rendulic: Austrian / German General
de Maiziere: German military and politics

What is your source for any of this? Adelson, Meyerson, Mendelsohn - how many do you examples do you need? Why are we even discussing this in CivilWarTalk?

non of these is a "good" biblical name. good means used by Christians (that is not valuing it is just a historial thing)

examples for bad biblical names (Christian pov) are eg Herodes (Latinezed Jewish) or Nebuchadnezzar (Babylonian)

Last names mean very little in terms of who is Jewish or not. I had two friends who where Jewish who's last name bead O'Neill. Yes there dad was Irish Catholic but there mom was French Algerian Jewish who's last name was Abdual which is actually Arabic.

For Jews in a mixed marriage (Jew/nonJew) the religion of the kids goes with the mother's as a rule.

Again, I'm very curious about your sources for your pronouncements about Jewish surnames.
