"Officers of 1st Rhode Island Volunteers - Camp Sprague, 1861"

On building, see the signs, "Col. Burnside" and a 2nd sign on the right, "Welcome Home." The Burnside sign looks very official and military, while the welcome sign is very artistic. Anyone know who they were "welcoming home?"

"Percy Wyndham, 1st New Jersey Cav"

VERY unique handlebar mustache plus goatee.

"Forage scene at General McClellan's headquarters"

Is this about distribution of goods after foraging? I'm not sure what I'm seeing, and would appreciate any eagle eyes with more knowledge chiming in.

A. This photograph has been addressed before and many pictures enhanced -- a Forage is also for blacksmithing/farrier (shoeing horses). If you look closely, it is a two farrier operation to speed up the work under a horse. The fella sitting with a sledge hammer in his lap and a hammer, is straightening out the horseshoe nails; there are to 'blacksmith' boxes on each side of the horse that is being shod. One is at the anvil, as the other is nailing on the horseshoe. Fronts are done first, hind done last. Horse's tack is hung nearby and in the background many horses await their new shoes or trim down their hooves and reapply their current shoes. Some loose a shoe and needs a replacement.
