All my life I have researched my family tree trying to tie members to the Confederate Army. All this time to no avail until recently. About 2 years ago I was messing with Ancestry and made a cool discovery. While timing my wife's family into mine I asked her if she had any confederates in her lineage. She had no clue, but got into her families old cedar chest and pulled out the family phot album. What I saw next simply amazed me. All my life I had tried to find any connection for my family and in 5 minutes she came up with an original photo from the reunion of Forrest Escort. There were two angles and and her photo is the one here that's broken and has the numbers above the men's heads. Her Great Great Great Grandfather was Claiborne Winchester Phelps (Could be Felps) Not sure that he rode with Forrest, was told he was a member of Turneys 1st TN Co.

Anyway I'm curious if there's several of these photos floating around that may have more info on their backs or if anyone knows which one is Mr. Phelps. Thank You in advance.

I have not visited this site in many years. I was looking something up and a link popped up to this post. Claiborne Winchester Felps is my relative. He was enlisted in PETER TURNEY'S 1st TENNESSEE REGIMENT Company E. "The Lynchburg Ranger's". Claiborne Felps enlisted at Winchester, Franklin, Tennessee. Winchester being named after my 3rd great grandfather, Gen. James Winchester. Claiborn and I descend through the General and his wife, Susan Black. There is another Claiborn Winchester in the family. He was Claiborn Winchester Black. He had a son, Marcus Woodward Black, who was killed the day before Christmas, 1864 at Ritchland Creek, in Forrest's Escort.

Misread this as Ford Escort, thought we were going to see some obscure prototype from the 1860s... 🙃

His records says he was held prisoner at Fort Delaware and this one says he was paroled in April 1865. So I don't see him getting out and joining up with Forrest.

J.W. Gates of Henderson's Scouts was captured in Marshall Co, Miss in 1864 and eventually was sent to Fort Delaware. His CSRs show him surrendering at Citronella as a member of Forrest's Escort (if I recall correctly) but his other records and his bio don't give any indication that he was ever exchanged.
