Can anybody direct me to an anecdote or quote about Jefferson Davis' attitude toward cavalry? It should be pretty specific--not just that he thought it was a good idea. Hope somebody can help!

Not sure if these are the type of anecdotes you're looking for, but the brief biography at civilwarhome.com (http://www.civilwarhome.com/jdavisbio.html) includes some interesting facts about Davis and cavalry.

Davis' father was a member of a Georgia cavalry regiment during the American Revolution.

Davis himself served as a cavalryman with the First Dragoons regiment during the 1830's.

During the Mexican War, at the Battle of Buena Vista, Davis' infantry regiment utilized a converging-V tactic to repel a charge by Mexican lancers.
