"Pvt. John R. Paddison previously served in in Capt. William S. Devane's Independent Company, N.C. Troops. Transferred to this company on or about September 5, 1862. Discharged on December 6, 1862, by reason of being underage.later served as a Private in Capt. Abner A. Moseley's Company, Sampson Artillery."

John had a brother that also served in the company. The brothers were sons of English immigrants.

Pvt Richard P. Paddinson, Company A, 61st North Carolina.

Previously served in in Capt. William S. Devane's Independent Company, N.C. Troops. Transferred to this company on or about September 5, 1862. Reported on duty as acting Hospital Steward in the hospital at Fort Caswell through December 31, 1862. Appointed to the permanent rank of Hospital Steward on or about January 29, 186, and transferred. Was apparently assigned to permanent duty in the hospital at Fort Caswell.
