Born in Caldwell County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Caldwell County at age 15, July 15, 1861. Present or account for until discharged on December 6, 1961, by reason of “a stiffness of knee joint of 60 days standing depriving him of the use of his leg.” Reenlisted in the same company on March 20, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left thigh at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863. Returned to duty in January-February, 1864. Present or accounted for until transferred to Company D, 9st Regiment N.C. State Troops (1st Regiment N.C. Cavalry) July 23, 1864.
