The National Museum of Civil War Medicine and the Pry House Field Hospital Museum are hosting a living history encampment at the Pry House at Antietam on June 8-9 2019. Participants include infantry reenactors from the 87th PA, fife and drum musicians from the Monocacy Field Music, and the South Mountain Artillery Group about 1/2 mile away at the Newcomer House.

Here's the event announcement on their Facebook page:

I'll be there with the Monocacy Field Music. If you've never been to the Pry House, please stop by! It's off the beaten path, and a lot people drive by it on the way to the battlefield without realizing it's there, but it's well worth the visit!

We had a great time at the Pry House at Antietam last Saturday--the musicians couldn't make it on Sunday, but the infantry and medical program were there both days.

Here's a video of us playing "Frog in the Well" with a young drummer who had never played the bass and it was his first time with a fife and drum corps:

Here, some spectators listen to reenactors talk about the state of medical care (or lack thereof) on the battlefield:

We will be back next year and look forward to doing other events at the Pry House as well! The only thing I didn't like was the location of the program next to the parking lot, but it's a tough site to position an event--the parking lot is right out front, and if you go around back where there are no modern intrusions, no one knows you're there!
