Davis was an average President for the CSA. Lincoln was a superior President for the Union.

Who would have been the best choice for President of the CSA.
 
Alexander Stephens probably in that there would have been any good candidate for the head of the Southern rebellion. I think Stephens would have been better equipped to compromise and build consensus among the Confederate House and Senate, and less likely to interfere in military matters.
