The Siege of Port Hudson Re-enactment

    March 25—26, 2017……….Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

To commemorate the 154th anniversary of “The Siege of Port Hudson,” the Port Hudson State Historic Site near Zachary, LA., will host the annual re-enactment Saturday and Sunday, March 25-26, 2017 between 9:00 AM—5:00 PM both days. Visitors will have access to volunteer Civil War re-enactors in Union and Confederate campsites performing typical activities of soldiers during the siege. Soldiers and sailors dressed in authentic reproduction uniforms will be on hand to answer questions pertaining to the siege during the spring and summer of 1863. The three branches of the army—artillery, cavalry, and infantry will be portrayed, as well as sailors, cooks, laundresses, and sutlers. The standard entry fee will be charged (Note: Park entry fees may be subject to change).

It's pretty good. Some years have been better than others. They do one in Jefferson too.

If you get the bug and decide to join the hobby, drop me a line. I run with an artillery battery out of Livingston.

    Cheers,

Getting very excited about this event. Leaving early Thursday to see some other sites and probably hike the trail again Thursday afternoon. Little rain in the forecast Saturday so I'm not sure how that will effect the event. Saving a museum or 2 to be on standby for Saturday just in case. Sunday weather forecast looks good. Got a back issue of Blue & Gray Magazine about Port Hudson today. Boning up for the trip.

Looks like today's activities might get washed out. Thunderstorms rolling in. Pretty bad lightning right now.

Been a little weather passing through here and there and it's keeping things cool. So far all the activities have happened. Been to a dueling demonstration and artillery demonstration. Went off by myself and watched some boys practicing marching and a Color Guard practicing marching. Got some good pics I think.

Quite a few young re-enactors in the ranks. That's very encouraging.

Well...it's an hour before the main battle is supposed to happen and it's been raining for about an hour. Napping in my truck while the weather passes through. :D

The weather has cleared and the troops are forming and the boys are getting their dander up. Looks like there's gonna be a scrap.

So I'm standing at the ropes about 10 mins before the battle and I take off my hat and look to my right and there stands @mt155 right next to me. :D

The weather here is absolutely beautiful now. One of the Park Rangers estimated that there were about 200 re-enactors today. He said a Texas group comes every other year because they also do another event on the same weekend. This was an offyear for that group and the weather scared away some re-enactors and spectators. It was a great day for those who made it. I had a great time. There was a Medical Demonstration after the battle which was pretty cool too.
