Political structures that led to secession.

I am sure others can do this better than I but,
1. Having the states represented in the Senate makes the states look the entities that made the United States.
2. Having the electors vote in blocks from the states, for President, instead have the electors divided proportionately with the popular vote, makes the Presidential election look like a treaty agreement, instead of a national action by the people. This should have been changed by 1820.
3. Failure to in short order create a national currency, and to completely preempt state and local currencies is a failure to assert sovereignty. If it could not have been done in 1787 Jefferson should have insisted on preemption before completing the much desired Louisiana purchase.
