I stumbled across this Ph.D thesis and thought I would share, as it is very well written - the title is "What They Fight For: The Men and Women of Civil War Reenactment." It was authored by Chrisopher G. Bates as his thesis at the University of California in 2016. A PDF of the thesis is available here: http://escholarship.org/uc/item/73w01958
