I visited it 4/5/21....Could only walk the grounds due to Covid. Was not overly impressed with the fortifications. Saw the huge Union mortar "The Dictator"...battlefield notes said it was, at the end of the day, ineffective. Im sure time has eroded these grounds...they held away the AOP for an entire winter

One of the most impressive sites at NPS Petersburg is the remnants of the Crater and the partly reconstructed entryway to the tunnel. Hope you got a chance to see it.

I did not see the Creater. In the past year had some significant surgery which makes me not 100% when walking. If I push myself for a 1/2 mile I will pay for it later in the day. I was still going to Fredericksburg so I wanted something in reserve. As for the Petersburg fortifications, time waits for no one....not the weather, roadways, golf courses...etc ad nauseam......they are not as intact, IME, as they once were

Fort Fisher on the western end of the Federal line is in pretty good shape.

The preservation and museum at Pamplin was far more impressive to me that the NPS Petersburg Battlefield. It is well worth the experience there!

I looks a fantastic historical park. I recently discovered it while reading into the siege of Petersburg. Its definitely on my list , the family that preserved the area deserves a lot of credit.

I did not and now I feel like a...."mule" for not doing so...Saw the reproduction of "The Dictator"..was I close? That mortar was pretty impressive
