In Ed Bearss's Book on Vicksburg called "Receding Tide" he mentions that Pemberton had a prepared line of fortifications two miles south of Edwards, Mississippi, on Mt. Moriah ridge. Although Grant was never tempted to take the bait, and no actual battle took place, I was wondering about it. Does anyone know if anything remains to be seen there?

I’ve wondered about that myself. The land is private property so I’ve never walked it. Of the folks who have been out there, I’ve never heard them say that any existed or that they saw any.

The works there were not very extensive though and I imagine that much of it was constructed out of cotton bales with dirt thrown over them. All that land was farmed during and after the war, so most of it would have been removed I suspect.
